How to Get More 5-Star Reviews (Without Being Pushy)
Nine out of ten people read reviews before choosing a local business. Most happy customers are glad to leave one. They just need to be asked at the right moment, in the easiest possible way.
Ask at the moment of delight
The best time to ask is right when the customer is happiest: when they see the finished haircut, the spotless car, the new patio. A simple "Would you mind leaving us a quick review? It really helps a small business like ours" works far better than an email a week later.
Make it one tap
Copy the review link from your Google Business Profile and make it impossible to miss:
- Text it right after the appointment.
- Print a QR code on cards at the checkout counter.
- Add a "Leave us a review" button on your website.
- Include it in your email signature and receipts.

Reply to every review
Thank people by name for positive reviews and mention something specific. For negative reviews, stay calm, apologize for their experience, and offer to make it right offline. A thoughtful reply to a bad review often impresses future customers more than a perfect score.
What not to do
- Don't offer discounts or gifts in exchange for reviews. It's against Google's rules.
- Don't write fake reviews or ask family to pose as customers.
- Don't only ask the customers you think will be happy ("review gating").
Show reviews off on your website
Put your best testimonials on your homepage, near your "book now" or "call" button. Social proof right next to the decision point increases the chance a visitor becomes a customer.
